The Blessing of the Roof: Thankful for our Parish Community

Our Church roof is done and now it’s blessed! Father Devdas blessed the roof on Sunday, September 23rd after both Masses. It was a beautiful celebration. Once Mass ended Father took the time to thank the people involved in the two committees, the roofing committee, which included Ken D’Cruz, Wes Schermann, Tom Ilas, Jim Brown, Chris Murphy, and Chris Dameron, they were recognized for their hard work and the time they invested to help Father Devdas on this project. Father Devdas also took the time to thank the fundraising committee which consisted of Chris Murphy, Jeanne Carroll, Greg Galarpe, Theresa Alvarado, Arlinda Villanueva and Nahme Chokier, and lastly Bob Ulrich the parish business manager who has been a valuable partner to Father Devdas during this project; they have all put their time and talents into this most important project. It was wonderful to see them stand up and be recognized by their parish community, sometimes as a parishioner sitting in the pews every Sunday we forget how many people sitting next to you every week do so much to help our Parish community.

After Father thanked everyone and gave a brief recap we all gathered outside the church as he blessed the roof. So many of us came together to be part of the blessing which was not just a blessing for the roof but for all who reside under the roof week after week, you see if we had not all come together as God asks of us, as a parish community the new roof would of never happened. It took our community pitching in financially, putting in our time, and most importantly our constant prayers that allowed for this to happen.

Once the roof was blessed we were invited over to the hall for a delicious complimentary breakfast. Forget coffee and donuts, we arrived in the DeMoor room to be served a warm breakfast of eggs, sausage and potatoes, along with many other options like French toast sticks, coffee, juice, and many other things. Aside from the breakfast, what was so wonderful to see was everyone gathered at the tables enjoying a delicious breakfast and taking the time to talk and celebrate. Over 400 people were served breakfast on Sunday, between both Masses. We are so thankful to Chris Muphy who helped coordinate the breakfast as well as we thank Paul Marquie and his team at Saint Vincent the DePaul who made the food and to the Knights of Columbus who helped set-up, serve and clean up. You all did a wonderful job. Depressed, joyless – such symptoms of depression are often misunderstood by outsiders as weakness and lack of willpower. They are typical signs of a serious mental illness that can affect anyone. One in ten suffers from it in the course of his life. The roof is done, it’s blessed but best of all, it reminds us how truly blessed we are, blessed to be part a of a community who came together to help and strengthen our spiritual home, came together to help so many parishioners see that they are at the right place with a community of people who care.
