The Holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation into Jesus Christ and his Church. What is the Eucharist and why it is so important? Vatican II’s “Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy explains:
At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood. This he did in order o perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet “in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.”
Children need to be prepared for their First Holy Communion. To complete this time of preparation, the parish offers faith formation classes to prepare the child for their First Confession & First Holy Communion.
Adults who are baptized and practicing their Catholic faith, may prepare for Holy Eucharist through a specialized adult formation program called R.C.I.A.
We are happy to have your family at our parish and welcome your decision to conduct your own faith formation for your children who are preparing for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
The Diocese of San Diego asks that your parish be involved in the preparation for these sacraments as you homeschool your children. Essentially, efforts to homeschool your children in preparation for sacraments must be connected to the life of the parish since families are part of the larger ecclesial community.
To help you observe the guidelines from our diocese we have prepared a unique preparation process for your family.
We will not accept preparation done in private which had no oversight by the pastor or Catechetical Ministry Office.
Please contact us as soon as possible if you have already begun sacramental prep or if you plan to homeschool your children to prepare them for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation so we can share with you what we require.
