St. Vincent de Paul – Feeding the Community

Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Santa Sophia Conference

St. Vincent de Paul has been a part of Santa Sophia for almost 30 years. Our most visible work is the Food Pantry which operates with 100% volunteers 6 days a week .

Food distribution takes place Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (9 to 11 AM). Pick up, delivery, sorting, shelving, bagging takes place every day of the week except Sunday and holidays.  If you are interested in seeing the operation, please stop by.  We are located in the little house at the far end of the parking lot opposite the front of church.

We are responsible for the Thanksgiving Food Drive and distribution, provide free flu shots in November in collaboration with Sharp Hospital, have an Eldercare program for those people unable to come to the pantry, provide bags for the homeless, and visit and lend assistance or provide resource guidance in those situations that are beyond our capabilities.

Contracts with Feeding America San Diego and the San Diego Food Bank enable us to make best use of our food dollars. Those organizations provide food at costs well below retail.

Thanks to the generosity of Santa Sophia parishioners (yes, those little blue envelopes are really important), and the commitment of our volunteers, together we feed on average over 375 families a month and have been able to assist monetarily in some emergency situations.
