Catherine Margaret Naughton December 24, 1913 – December 27, 2017 San Diego Catherine left us peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 27th. She had just recently turned 104.Born Catherine Margaret Vincent in Massachusetts on Christmas Eve 1913, she was the youngest of 11 children. She married Mathias Naughton in 1942 and in 1956 they moved to the San Diego area with their 3-year-old son Kevin. Throughout the years she spent her spare time attending numerous arts and crafts classes which she excelled in. She was an avid reader and was currently reading a set of encyclopedias in alphabetical order, because she found it fascinating. “You never know what’s coming up next.” A devout Catholic, she was active in her parish being a member of the Women’s Guild and several other groups over the years. She taught catechism classes there and attended mass every week until shortly before her passing. A truly kind, loving, and supportive person who never had a bad word to say about anybody. This world desperately needs more people like her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Predeceased by her husband Mathias in 1985, she is survived by her son Kevin. A celebration of life will be held at Santa Sophia Catholic Church (9800 San Juan St., Spring Valley) on January 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to the Santa Sophia roofing project would be appreciated. For details contact the church at (619) 463-6629 or www.santasophia.org.
