A Message from Mrs. Laaperi, Principal K through Grade 8 Santa Sophia Academy
From our simple beginnings in 1959, expertly and prayerfully led by the Sisters of the Religious Order of Jesus and Mary, with early classes taught in the church building, to today's vibrant school community housed in our beautiful buildings, up-to-date classrooms and child-friendly playgrounds, Santa Sophia Academy continues to thrive!
Today we are proud to offer a Fine Arts program unrivaled by any other school and smaller class sizes to meet the needs of every student, including our gifted students as well as those needing more individualized instruction. Studies have proven that a concentration in Fine Arts (music, drama and art) encourages the brain to work better in not only in the arts, but in everyday academics. From guitars, recorders, rhythm and percussion instruments, dance and movement, dramatic arts, hand bells, choir, and art appreciation and art classes, our students have demonstrated through their daily class work, standardized test results, grades, and a variety of performances that they indeed are flourishing in our school's learning environment. Their success is demonstrated by their excellent scores, high academic achievement, educational honors, and "Honors at Entrance" recognition from our local Catholic High Schools.
Our teachers hold California credentials and religion certification. They are highly motivated and the most caring, loving, generous, dedicated community of teachers that I've ever had the honor to work with. You will find Santa Sophia Academy the place where your child will be known and loved, while being nurtured as students, individuals, and faith-filled children. The Academy community is proud and happy to work with our parents in the partnership of educating their children; always recognizing them as the primary educators of their children.
Christian Service activities are integral to becoming faithful to our calling to be Christ for others. Through our daily classes in religion, school-wide Mass each Friday, and weekly assemblies, we grow together, encouraging the call to service from every member of our community; students, parents, and staff. Santa Sophia students donate thousands of hours each year reaching out to the parish, the local community, the larger global community, and to those in times of special need. We are proud of our efforts to help a variety of community groups and agencies each Advent with special projects and to provide over thirty Thanksgiving dinners and Easter meals to those in need from our parish each year.
As we begin our next fifty years as a quality Catholic school, please consider becoming a part of the history we begin to write this coming fall. Santa Sophia Academy has a place for your child today!
Catholic Education is the gift that lasts a lifetime. "This education is a gift your child will be unwrapping for the rest of their life!"
