Like the sacrament of reconciliation, the Anointing of the Sick is another healing sacrament of the church, carrying on Jesus' own ministry of healing. This sacrament calls on God's healing for those physically or psychologically ill. There are certain graces that always accompany the celebration of this sacrament:
1. The first grace is one of strengthening.
2. The second grace unites the sick person to the passion of Christ, for his own good and that of the church.
3. The third grace is found in the preparation for passing over to eternal life.
No longer referred to as the "Last Rites," this beautiful sacrament is for anyone over the age of seven facing a serious illness or surgery.
Anointing may be celebrated more than once in the course of an illness, and may also be celebrated when death is near. It is not celebrated after the time of death.
Anointing of the Sick is available on the first Saturday of every month. Gather around the Baptismal font after the 4:30 PM Vigil Mass.
To arrange a private anointing, simply email the parish office or call Georgene at the parish office at (619)463-6629 ext 26. In an emergency after office hours, call (619)388-8696.
