Jose Devera Cayabyab Passes Away

Devoted Husband and Father of three, Jose Devera Cayabyab aka “Poppa Joe” peacefully passed on Sunday, April 29th 2018 at the young age of 70. Jose will be forever remembered by His loving wife of 46 years Resy and his precious children Jocelyn, Jose Jr., Carlo and his Grand Dog Bella, and his younger and older brothers August and Morie Cayabyab.

Born October 5th 1947 to his parents Teofilo and Barbara Cayabyab in the beautiful, northern province of Pangasinan, Philippines. Jose was raised in Urdaneta with his 4 other brothers where he attended Urdaneta High School with his fellow town mates and “ran” the streets of Calle Garcia with many of his cousins and friends.

Looking for adventure and wanting to travel the world, Jose enlisted into the U.S. Navy at the age of 18 and immigrated to the United States. During his 24 year Naval career, he worked as a Captains Steward and was quickly promoted to the rating of Disbursing Clerk. In 1989, he retired from the Navy and continued to work with the federal government, where he proudly served another 22 years with the United States Post Office before retiring a second time as an Environmental Specialist and Union Steward.

Jose Cayabyab enjoyed taking family vacations, Ballroom dancing, fishing, reading financial Books by his favorite author, John Bogle, playing poker and grilling his famous “Poppa Joe’s Burgers” at family picnics at the beach.

Visitation viewings will be held May 14th and 15th at the Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary (main chapel) in Bonita from 5pm to 9pm. Funeral Service and Mass with be held May 16th at Santa Sophia Catholic Church in Spring Valley at 10am. A procession back to Glen Abbey Memorial Park will proceed directly after mass, where he will be laid to rest.
