In May 2009, Santa Sophia's music director, Kevin McGoff began an official leave of absence from the Franciscan Order (he entered the Franciscans in 1988 and made his Solemn Profession of Vows in 1994). He left Providence, Rhode Island, and moved into a second floor room of the beach house of one of his best friends in Lavallette, New Jersey.
